Forty years ago (1972), Jeanne Manford marched alongside her gay son, Morty, in New York’s Liberation Day Parade after Morty had been badly beaten at a protest while police stood by and did nothing. She marched while carrying a sign which read, “Parents of Gays Unite in Support of Our Children.”
“I didn’t think anything of it, but I guess it was the first time a mother ever stood up publicly and said, ‘yes, I have a homosexual son and I love him.”
Now there are over 350 chapters of pflag with over 200,000 members. We love our gay children.
